About

Welcome to SRIVARI SPICES AND FOODS LTD.

All of us have fond memories of our childhood and especially the food that was made in our kitchens. Fresh, wholesome, and tasty, we can still smell the fragrance of hot rotis made from fresh atta ground in neighbourhood atta chakkis or the curries made from authentic spices and masalas which gave it a unique color and flavour.

The story behind Srivari spices & Foods Ltd began in one such kitchen and is a testimony of one man’s endeavor to bring fresh, pure and the most authentic and wholesome Atta, spices, and masalas back onto our dining tables.

Narayan Das Rathi is a serial entrepreneur and a visionary who dreamt of taking spices, foods, and more recently sharbati and regular atta to the discerning Indian consumer. With a single-minded focus on QUALITY, and on providing the purest most authentic ingredients to our kitchens, our story is just beginning!

Chilli

Chilli are varieties of the berry-fruit of plants from the genus Capsicum, which are members of the nightshade family Solanaceae, cultivated for their pungency. Chili peppers are widely used in many cuisines as a spice to add “heat” to dishes. Capsaicin and related compounds known as capsaicinoids are the substances giving chili peppers their intensity when ingested or applied topically.

The hot and fiery flavour is not the only speciality of it as red chilli powder is also a treasure trove of health benefits which include digestive health and reduction in inflammations and pain. It relieves nasal congestion and also helps in improving cognitive functions.

Our chillies are sourced from Guntur, Khammam, Warangal, Raichur, Byadgi, Malakpet and Hyderabad. The chillies from Guntur are popular for their pungency and are one of the hottest chillies in India and this is reflected in the fiery Andhra Cuisine. The chillies from Byadgi in Karnataka are an essential part of Udupi cuisine. These chillies are not as fiery as their Guntur counterpart, but they give a great shade of red colour to the curries.

Srivari Spices & Foods Ltd understand the importance of pure, unadulterated spices and how these spices play an important role in our well-being as research reveals that Indian spices, besides taste and flavour, also have medicinal and recuperative properties.

Dhania/ Coriander

Dhania/ Coriander (Coriandrum sativum) is a herb in the family Apiaceae. It is also known as dhania or cilantro. All parts of the plant are edible, but the fresh leaves and the dried seeds (which are both a herb and a spice) are the parts most traditionally used in cooking.

Coriander powder is used as a common spice in most Indian curries. You will be surprised to know that the seeds, oils, and extracts of this plant promote the secretion of insulin and reduce blood sugar levels. People who have low blood sugar or take diabetes medication should practice caution with coriander because it is so effective in lowering blood sugar.

Coriander offers several antioxidants, which prevent cellular damage caused by free radicals. Its antioxidants have been shown to fight inflammation. Research has also indicated that coriander helps in lowering blood pressure as well as cholesterol in our body.

Furthermore, the seeds contain anti-fungal and microbial properties. So, whether used as a seasoning in the lentil curry or vegetables, the goodness stays forever. Srivari Spices and Foods Ltd. sources coriander (dhania) from Indore in Madhya Pradesh.

Turmeric

Turmeric is a flowering plant, Curcuma longa (of the ginger family, the rhizomes of which are used in cooking. The plant is native to the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia that requires temperatures between 20 and 30 °C (68 and 86 °F) and a considerable amount of annual rainfall to thrive. Plants are gathered each year for their rhizomes, some for propagation in the following season and some for consumption.

Turmeric is a must-have in all Indian dishes. One of the most active ingredients of turmeric is curcumin and clinical research proves that consuming it may reduce the possibility of cardiac attacks.

It also has powerful anti-inflammatory effects and is a strong antioxidant. Besides, Turmeric helps in boosting brain functions and reverses the chances of diseases. Small studies also reveal significant benefits of turmeric for fighting depression. Turmeric helps in enhancing brain transmitters, such as serotonin and dopamine, and is also used for treating problems in the gall bladder, skin, and stomach. Curcumin is also fat soluble, which means it breaks down and dissolves in fat or oil. That is why it may be a good idea to take curcumin supplements with a meal that’s high in fat.

Srivari Spices and Foods Ltd. sources coriander (dhania) from Sanghi, Nanded and Nizamabad.
